OWHA playing rules apply 

  • Except - in Bantam round robin & Quarter finals games there will only be two officials.
  • Protests will be handled as per the OWHA procedures. 
  • The Home Team shall wear their White Sweaters and occupy the Bench designated for the home team.
  •  Players assessed the following penalties will be suspended for the remainder of the tournament:
    •  Match Penalty; and
    •  Fighting Penalty.

 Game Procedures

  • Novice: 3 x 10 minute stop time periods.
  • Atom: 3 x 12 minute stop time periods.
  •  Bantam: 3 x 12 minute stop time period.
  • There will be a two-minute warm up for all games.
  • Teams must be ready to start any game 15 minutes prior to the published game start time.
  • There is no overtime in Round Robin games.
  • There are no Time-outs in Round Robin games.
  • The clock will run straight time if one team is leading by 5 goals or more at the start or any time during the third period. 
  • Once straight time commences, stop time will not be reintroduced.
  • In three team divisions/groups one of the round robin games will be against a team in the other three-team division/group.
  • Final positional standing after round robin play will be based points then the tie-breaking formula unless otherwise indicated in the published schedule.
  • There are five points per game awarded as follows: 
    • Win - 2 points,
    • Tie - 1 point,
    • Win a period - 1 point; and
    • Tie a period - ½ point.

 There are five points per game awarded as follows:

  •  win – 2 points
  • tie – 1 point
  • Period
  • win – 1 point
  • tie – ½ point

Divisions

Semi-finalist (quarter-finalist) will be determined as follows:

  •  5 Teams – One Division (four round robin games, plus)

°  the top two teams will play in the Finals

  •  6 Teams – Two Divisions (three round robin games, plus)

°          Semi-Finals – 1st in one division plays 2nd in the other

°          Winners play in the Finals

* Note: one of the round robin games will be against a team in the other division               

  • 8 Teams – Two Divisions (three round robin games, plus)

°          Semi-Finals – 1st in one division plays 2nd in the other

°          Winners play in the Finals

  • 11 Teams – Two Divisions (four round robin games, plus)

°    Division A to consist of 5 teams.  Each team in Division A to play against the other four teams in the same division.  Top 2 teams in Division A will advance to semi-finals.

°    Division B to consist of 6 teams.  Each team in Division B to play against 4 of the 5 other teams in the Division.  Top 2 teams in Division B will advance to semi-finals.

°    Semi-Finals – 1st in Division A plays 2nd in Division B and

°   1st in Division B plays 2nd in Division A.

°    Winners of semi-final games play in the Finals. 

Tie Breaking Formula

  • In the event of a tie in points, positions will be determined as follows, in order of priority:

  • Number of wins,

  • Record against other tied teams,

  • Goals scored minus the goals against in round robin games,

  • Fewest goals allowed in round robin play,

  • Most periods won in round robin play,

  • Fewest penalty minutes in round robin play,

  • First goal scored in series,

  • Flip of a coin. 

Play-Off Game Procedures                                                               

  • There will be a three-minute warm up for all games.

  • Games will start no sooner than their published start time.

  • There may be overtime in any Quarter, Semi or Final Game.

  • Each team may take one-30 second time-out in a Quarter, Semi or Final game. There is NO additional time out if the game goes into overtime.

  • The clock will run straight time if one team is leading by 5 goals or more at the start or anytime during the third period. 

  • Once straight time commences, stop time will not be reintroduced.

Overtime

- Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals & Finals ONLY

If a final, semi-final or quarterfinal game is tied at the end of regulation time the following procedure will apply:

  • A 12-minute straight time sudden victory period will be played.
  • The teams will not change ends.
  • Teams will play three players + goalie per side.
  • Teams must change on the fly; no changes may be made on a whistle.
  •  Penalties in overtime will result in a penalty shot.
  •  If a penalty was in force at the end of regulation time the non-penalized team shall play with four skaters at the start of overtime and the penalized team with three skaters. Once the penalty expires teams shall play four skaters aside until the first stoppage of play. At that stoppage each team will remove one player from the ice, but make no other change of players.
  •  If a penalty was in force at the end of regulation time the remaining time will be straight time once overtime commences.
  • The referee may stop the clock for an injury.
  • If a team has not used it's 30 second time-out it may do so in over-time. The Referee shall stop the clock for this and the clock shall start again on the puck drop.
  •  If the game is still tied at the end of overtime a shootout shall be conducted as follows:
    • Each coach shall identify three players to the referee, all of whom shall shoot,
    • If the score is still tied then an additional three players shall be identified to the referee, this will be sudden victory; this process will be repeated until there is a winner,
    • No player may shoot again time until all players on the bench have shot; and
    • Players shall shoot simultaneously.    

Note 1:  One 30 second time-out per team per game will be permitted in Quarter, Semi and Final Games.

Note 2:  The Home team in the Final Game will be the team with the better record in Round Robin play.
